Emily M. Bender is an American linguist and professor at the University of Washington, where she directs the Computational Linguistics Laboratory. Specializing in natural language processing and AI ethics, she was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2022 and served as president of the Association for Computational Linguistics in 2024. She co-authored the landmark 2021 paper 'On the Dangers of Stochastic Parrots' and the 2025 book 'The AI Con: How to Fight Big Tech's Hype and Create the Future We Want'.
